Black Betty vs. T100: What We Saw in North Dakota

We talk a lot about drone specs, but at the end of the day, what really matters is what a drone can actually do in the field.

Recently, we had the chance to be there for efficiency testing in North Dakota conducted by Pro Ag Solutions LLC, where Black Betty was run alongside the T100. It gave us a chance to see how the two compared under actual application conditions, and we were pretty impressed with what we saw.

One of the biggest takeaways from the testing was just how many acres Black Betty was able to cover.

During one of the 3 GPA runs, Black Betty ran at 40 MPH with a 39-foot swath and covered 117.98 acres per hour.

Under the comparison conditions, the T100 covered 84.53 acres per hour.

That put Black Betty at about 40% more acres covered per hour in that comparison.

There was also a 2 GPA run where Black Betty operated at 40 MPH with a 35-foot swath and covered 115.94 acres per hour.

For growers and custom applicators trying to get as much done as possible during a short application window, those are numbers worth paying attention to.

There are a lot of numbers you can look at when comparing spray drones.

Tank capacity, lift capacity, speed and swath all matter, but they don’t always tell you what using the drone is actually going to look like.

That’s why getting Black Betty into the field and seeing it work is important to us.

The North Dakota testing gave us a chance to see what its size and capacity can actually mean when you’re trying to cover acres.

Obviously, no two fields or applications are exactly the same.

Application rate, swath width, weather, field shape, refill time, battery management and plenty of other factors can change how many acres you’re actually able to cover in an hour or a day.

These numbers are from the specific conditions tested in North Dakota. We’re not saying every operator is going to see exactly 117.98 acres per hour every time they fly.

What we are saying is that Black Betty showed us what it’s capable of, and we’re excited about what that could mean for growers and applicators who need to cover a lot of acres.
